Lucknow, May 22 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh and the Republic of Korea’s Gyeongsangbuk-do province signed a series of memoranda of understanding on Monday to strengthen academic, economic and cultural ties, the state government said.
A high-level delegation led by Governor Gyeongsangbuk-do Lee Cheolwoo traveled to Uttar Pradesh for the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony, which was held in the presence of Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath at his residence.

Manoj Kumar Singh, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Industrial Development of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and Director General of Gyeongsangbuk-do Economic and Industrial Affairs Bureau, Lee Youngseok, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.
Adityanath said that the Memorandum of Understanding is an important step towards strengthening bilateral cooperation. The exchange of expertise in various fields and the promotion of mutual investment will contribute to the prosperity and progress of both regions.

Welcoming guests from the Republic of Korea (South Korea), Adityanath said, “The Independence Day dates of both countries are the same. Today India celebrates ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The relationship between India and South Korea is old because they are both members of the G20.”
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the UN, Adityanath said that many countries have declared war on humanity, but Buddhists have deep respect for India. All the important places associated with Lord Buddha like Sarnath, Shravasti, Kushinagar, Kapilvastu, Sankisa and Kaushambi are located in Uttar Pradesh.
Kushinagar International Airport within the Buddhist Circuit opened, increasing investment and employment opportunities. He said that soon Shravasti will be connected to air services.
He added that Gyeongsangbuk-do is South Korea’s largest province and has played an important role in preserving its centuries-old traditions and historical sites.
There has been intense industrialization in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Global business groups such as Samsung, LG and Posco have their roots in the province.
Similarly, Uttar Pradesh is the largest consumer center and is endowed with fertile Ganges plains and abundant natural resources. He added that today Uttar Pradesh is rapidly moving towards a $1 trillion economy.
Congratulating Adityanath as chief minister for the second time, the governor of Cheolwoo said that both Gyeongsangbuk-do and Uttar Pradesh are moving towards progress. Work is underway to promote Ayurveda in the province, which is also gaining recognition in Uttar Pradesh.
He said that Gyeongsangbuk-do and Uttar Pradesh could cooperate in many areas.
Uttar Pradesh Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh, Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta “Nandi”, Minister Ayush Dayashankar Mishra and General Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra were among others present at the ceremony.
