CAIRO, May 25 (Xinhua) – On Thursday, the Egyptian capital, Cairo, hosted a tea-themed cultural salon where more than 200 people gathered to taste the famous Chinese tea, experience the art of tea brewing and watch cultural performances.
The meeting, held under the theme “Tea: China’s gift to the world”, was attended by China’s Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang, former Prime Minister of Egypt Essam Sharaf and Arab League Deputy Secretary General Khalil Ebrahim Mohammed Saleh Althawadi, as well as government officials, media representatives and tea lovers from both China and Egypt.
“Tea is not only a spiritual symbol of the Chinese nation, but also a link and a bridge between China and the rest of the world,” Liao said in his speech.
The Ambassador noted that traditional Chinese tea processing techniques and related social practices, which were inscribed on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2022, have become the common happiness of all mankind. .
He expressed hope that the tea would contribute to strengthening ties between China and Egypt.
In addition to various tea-related activities, the event also included performances of Chinese folk dances and Shaolin Kungfu, which were met with applause from the audience.
Jointly sponsored by China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, and the Arab League General Secretariat, the event was the last stop of the “Tea for Harmony Yaji Cultural Salon” global tour promoting the tradition of tea-making and its rich culture in China. ■
